Cialis was formerly known as IC351. It is the drug that is used orally for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is found to be a selective phosphodiesterase (PDE) type 5 inhibitor that resembles vardenafil and sildenafil .

Cialis is not involved for the inhibition of prostaglandins where as some other agents such as alprostadil cause an inhibition of prostaglandins. The duration of action of Cialis is up to 36 hours that is quite high as compared to the duration of action of other drugs such as vardenafil and sildenafil.

The longer duration of action of Cialis is found to be very effective to bring spontaneity during sexual activity because erection is promoted by PDE inhibitors only when sexual stimulation is present.

The patients should immediately contact their physician if they find that erection is lasting more than 4 hours or they are feeling pain. When taking Cialis, the patients are advised not to drink alcohol excessively. It is found that men that drink alcohol in excess while taking Cialis suffer from headache or they get dizzy, their heart rate increases or their blood pressure lowers.

Patients are advised to consult their physician for the reevaluation of the dose of Cialis. It is clearly said that the use of Cialis does not provide protection to a man or his partner against sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS that is transmitted through HIV infection.

Patients should inform their physician if they feel changes in vision, shortness of breath, palpitation, eyelid swelling, dizziness, itching and skin rash and prolonged erection.
